Disappearing Lines

Have you ever been driving along a country road, over 80 kilometres an hour, your eyes following those double lines for kilometres, when suddenly a small incline in the road makes them seem as though they've disappeared?
You can't see the road ahead because of the incline and if you're unfamiliar with the road you're traveling, for a moment your heart skips a beat, unsure if the road will suddenly veer to the right or left as you reach the crest.
I find these moments terrifying. Now add to that the dark of night and a thick fog and it's even more intimidating, to the point that I was traveling at 50 kilometres per hour on a road where the speed limit was 80km. It was just too nerve-racking and I had my girl in the car with me. I wanted to get us home safely.
But on one of these drives it suddenly occurred to me. Life is a little like that road up ahead. We travel along and there are times when our way is clear. Our plans are following the course we set and it's smooth traveling. Then suddenly that crest is coming your way and you're unsure if you'll keep going straight ahead, if you'll make a slight curve or there's a fork in the road. Life throws these crests into our path regularly. We may grow unsure of how to proceed. But thankfully we have a God who is outside of time and who is FOR us. 'And whether you turn to the right or turn to the left, your ears will hear a message behind you: "This is the way, walk in it."' (Isaiah 30:21).
I especially love the Contemporary English Version which puts it this way,
''Whether you turn to the right or to the left, you will hear a voice saying, "This is the road! Now follow it."
Whether you've chosen the 'wrong' direction, or you're unsure of what's ahead. If you're questioning the path you're on, or are afraid that God can't get you out of this situation you're in, He says, 'This is the road!' It's where you are. It's not bad or good. It is what it is. And He will make a way forward for you. He can take ashes and make them beautiful. He can take dry bones and bring them to life. He can take whatever you're stuck on, stuck in, and turn it to good for His glory. Trust, that when the lines disappear from the road ahead of you, He knows what's coming. This is the road! Now follow it.

A piece of music I've been loving the last few months is Ellie Holcomb's 'He Will'. Check it out here.
